The 2018 summer season launches in July with the critically acclaimed
Arena Stage when they bring their provocative production of THE ORIGINALIST to Theater A as part of 59E59's Subscription Series. July also features
59E59 Theaters' two summer staples: EAST TO EDINBURGH, the festival that features American shows on their way to the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, and SUMMER SHORTS, the hottest short play festival in NYC.
In August, fall in love with Gianmarco Soresi's unromantic comedy LESS THAN FIFTY%.
Then audience favorite
Hersey Felder returns to 59E59, this time as
Irving Berlin in the aptly titled
Hershey Felder AS
Irving Berlin.
In September, Lesser America joins the 59E59 family with the NYC premiere of AGNES. The summer season comes to a fiery close with SEPARATE AND EQUAL, set on the hot cracking asphalt of an aging Birmingham, Alabama basketball court in 1951.

Inspired by compelling personal recollections from the Oral History Project at the Birmingham Civil Rights Museum, SEPARATE AND EQUAL is a provocative new theatrical experience that explores the emotional violence of segregation through the playing of a forbidden basketball game between black and white teens in the pressure cooker of 1950's Jim Crow Alabama. A dynamic hybrid of basketball and modern dance, performed to an original Jazz soundtrack, provides a visceral experience of the game. SEPARATE AND EQUAL follows six young men on the very cusp of adulthood as they struggle to break free from a repetitious cycle still evident today.
