Child Star Of THE FIVE PENNIES Joins 'Danny Kaye' At St. Luke's Theatre At 12/16

SUSAN GORDON, who played Danny Kaye'S young daughter in the well-loved 1959 film "THE FIVE PENNIES" will attend the 2 PM matinee of "DANNY AND SYLVIA: The Danny Kaye Musical", on WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 16TH and then join the musical's stars, BRIAN CHILDERS AND KIMBERLY FAYE GREENBERG, on stage for a chat and to recreate the musical counterpoint of "Goodnight, Sleep Tight Medley" (Lullabye in Ragtime/The Five Pennies) from the film.

As a young actress, SUSAN GORDON was featured in six motion pictures, guest-starred in nearly thirty popular television shows, and performed in a live performance of The Miracle on 34th Street which aired on NBC on Thanksgiving Friday in 1959. Her movie credits include: The Five Pennies, Attack of The Puppet People, The Man in the Net, Tormented, The Boy and the Pirates, and Picture Mommy Dead. Her more than two dozen television roles include The Twilight Zone, Gunsmoke, Alfred Hitchcock Presents, The Donna Reed Show, and My Three Sons.
The soundtrack from the 1959 film classic The Five Pennies received two Academy Award nominations including Best Song and Best Score, Musical. Susan appears on two tracks -- singing with Danny Kaye on "Music Goes Round and Round," and singing "The Five Pennies" in counterpoint to Danny Kaye and Jazz-legend Louis Armstrong on "Goodnight, Sleep Tight Medley." Legendary Hollywood Columnist Walter Winchell called Susan Gordon "the most talented child actress since Miss Temple." The soundtrack recording of THE FIVE PENNIES was released on CD in 2004.

"DANNY AND SYLVIA: The Danny Kaye Musical" is now in its 7th month at the St. Luke's Theatre, 308 West 46th Street in NYC. The new musical love story, with book and lyrics by Robert mcElwaine and music by Bob Bain, stars Helen Hayes Award-winner Brian Childers as Danny Kaye and Kimberly Faye Greenberg as his wife and creative partner, Sylvia Fine who wrote many of his most famous songs. Directed by Pamela Hall with choreography by Gene Castle, the musical follows the duo from the time the young undisciplined comic Danny Kaminsky meets aspiring songwriter Sylvia Fine at an audition in the 1930s. Under Sylvia's guidance as mentor, manager and eventually, wife, Kaye rises from improvisational comic to international film star. The musical explores their inspired collaboration and the romance and conflict that made them such a volatile and successful couple. Many of Danny's hit songs are featured including "Tchaikovsky," "Anatole of Paris," "Minnie the Moocher" and "Deenah."
The musical has also been presented successfully in London and Washington, DC.

Produced by Hy Juter and Edmond Gaynes, "DANNY and SYLVIA: THE Danny Kaye MUSICAL" plays Wednesday, Saturday & Sunday at 2 PM and Saturday evenings at 8 PM. The musical opened off-Broadway on Wednesday, May 13th, 2009.
