Cherry Lane Theatre presents the first production of the company's award-winning MENTOR PROJECT 2016, Christopher Gabriel Núñez's play THE SURGEON AND HER DAUGHTERS, being presented at Cherry Lane (38 Commerce St.) from tonight, February 24, to March 5, 2016.

David Anzuelo (SE LLAMA CRISTINA), Rosa Arredondo, Russell G. Jones (RUINED), Elizabeth Ramos, Diana Oh and Eden Marryshow (BLUE BLOODS) comprise the cast of THE SURGEON AND HER DAUGHTERS, directed by Adrienne Campbell-Holt (THE NEST).

Mr. Núñez is mentored by Rajiv Joseph, the Pulitzer-nominated playwright of BENGAL TIGER AT THE BAGHDAD ZOO, ANIMALS OUT OF PAPER and numerous other plays.

This 18th season of MENTOR PROJECT - which annually pairs new playwrights with seasoned writers for a season of play development, casting, rehearsals and a fully-staged production - marks the first time that all three Mentors had previously been young writers themselves in the theater's celebrated MENTOR PROJECT program.

Rajiv Joseph was Mentored by Theresa Rebeck in 2005 for his play HUCK AND HOLDEN. Also serving as Mentors to young writers this season will be: Mentored playwright Sheila Callaghan (2006, LASCIVIOUS SOMETHING) this season will Mentor Sarah Einspanier for her play THE CONVENT OF PLEASURE (March 23-April 2); and Mentored playwright Katori Hall (2006, HOODOO LOVE) will Mentor Antoinette Nwandu and her play PASS OVER from April 13-23.

THE SURGEON AND HER DAUGHTERS is described as follows: Who is Amon El-Hashem? When no one is who they seem to be and fear is the enemy of the truth, can two daughters struggling to cope with the abrupt deployment of their mother on a dangerous overseas mission trust a seemingly kind-hearted stranger who suddenly enters their lives and tries to make their family whole again?

Scenic design is by Raul Abrego; costume design by Sueann Leung, lighting design by Grant Yaeger, sound design by M.L. Dogg; property design by Deborah Gaouette; Assistant Stage Manager, Carolyn Reich; Production Stage Manager, Jonathan KIm Phillips.

THE SURGEON AND HER DAUGHTERS will perform now through March 5 - Mondays through Saturdays at 7 pm. Tickets are $19, or a festival pass to all three Mentor Project plays can be purchased for $48. For info and reservations visit www.cherrylanetheatre.org or call Ovation Tix at 866 811 4111.
