Cherise Boothe, Eisa Davis, et al. Set for Playwrights Horizons' MILK LIKE SUGAR

Playwrights Horizons (Tim Sanford, Artistic Director; Leslie Marcus, Managing Director), Women's Project (Julie Crosby, Producing Artistic Director) and La Jolla Playhouse (Christopher Ashley, Artistic Director; Michael S. Rosenberg, Managing Director) have announced complete casting for the New York premiere of MILK LIKE SUGAR, a new play by Kirsten Greenidge in her New York debut.

Directed by Obie Award winner Rebecca Taichman (Menopausal Gentlemen, Orlando, The Scene), the production will begin previews Thursday, October 13 at 7:30 PM with an Opening Night set for Tuesday, November 1 at 7PM. The limited engagement will play through Sunday, November 20 at Playwrights Horizons' Peter Jay Sharp Theater (416 West 42nd Street).

The cast will feature Cherise Boothe (Ruined at MTC, King Hedley II at Signature, "The Good Wife"), Obie Award winner Eisa Davis (This at PH, Passing Strange, her own play Angela's Mix Tape), 2-time Audelco Award nominee Angela Lewis (Inked Baby at PH, Brother/Sister Plays at The Public, Hoodoo Love), LeRoy McClain (Broadway's Cymbeline, The History Boys), J. Mallory-McCree (Zooman and the Sign at Signature), Adrienne Moore (The 24 Hour Plays) and Nikiya Mathis in her New York debut.

With potential for more but nowhere to put it, sixteen-year-old Annie's (Angela Lewis) got a choice: honor the pregnancy pact she made with her friends, or find the path to a brighter future. MILK LIKE SUGAR is a searing, sharply observant new play that finds savage humor and gritty poetry in one inner-city girl's struggle to carve out a life beyond the only one she knows.

In additional Playwrights Horizons casting news, Lucas Kavner (Off-Broadway's No End of Blame, the development of After the Revolution at Williamstown) has joined the cast of COMPLETENESS, a new play by Itamar Moses, directed by Obie Award winner Pam MacKinnon. Mr. Kavner replaces Michael Stahl-David, who had to withdraw from the production prior to rehearsals beginning due to a movie commitment. As previously announced, the production will begin previews Friday, August 19 at Playwrights Horizons Mainstage Theater (416 West 42nd Street), with Opening Night set for Tuesday, September 13 and a limited engagement through Sunday, September 25.

MILK LIKE SUGAR will feature scenic design by Mimi Lien, costume design by Toni-Leslie James, lighting design by Justin Townsend and sound design by Andre Pleuss. Production Stage Manager is Kyle Gates.

The performance schedule for MILK LIKE SUGAR will be Tuesdays through Fridays at 7:30 PM, Saturdays at 2PM & 7:30 PM and Sundays at 2PM & 7PM. Single tickets, $55, will go on sale to the general public beginning Tuesday, September 13. They may be purchased online via www.TicketCentral.com, by phone at (212) 279-4200 (Noon-8pm daily), or in person at the Ticket Central Box Office, 416 West 42nd Street (between Ninth & Tenth Avenues).

A ticketing initiative created as part of Playwrights Horizons' Arts Access program, LIVEforFIVE makes available $5 tickets for the first preview performance of each Playwrights Horizons production through a lottery via the company's website. The LIVEforFIVE lottery for MILK LIKE SUGAR will be for tickets to the first preview on Thursday, October 13 at 7:30 PM. Details for the lottery are as follows: beginning Wednesday, October 5 at 10AM, theatergoers can enter the lottery by filling out an entry form at www.playwrightshorizons.org. Entries will be accepted until Tuesday, October 11 at 12 Noon. Winners of the lottery will be notified via email no later than 3PM on Tuesday, October 11 with instructions on how to book their $5 tickets. Unclaimed tickets will be offered via email starting at 12 Noon on Wednesday, October 12 on a first-come, first-served basis. One or two tickets may be purchased for $5 each. At total of 40 tickets will be available for Sharp shows via the lottery.

Reflecting Playwrights Horizons' ongoing commitment to making its productions more affordable to younger audiences, the theater company will offer HOTtix, $25 rush tickets, subject to availability, day of performance only, starting one hour before showtime to patrons aged 30 and under. Proof of age required. One ticket per person, per purchase. STUDENT RUSH, $15 rush tickets, subject to availability, day of performance only, starting one hour before curtain to full-time graduate and undergraduate students. One ticket per person, per purchase. Valid student ID required.

LIVEforFIVE, HOTtix and STUDENT RUSH are some of Playwrights Horizons' popular Arts Access initiatives, which allow the institution to reach out to those who may not be able to afford the cost of a full-prIce Theater ticket. Three brand-new subscription packages to Playwrights Horizons' 2011/2012 season are now available: a 6-show Subscription package ($225, four Mainstage and two Peter Jay Sharp Theater Productions); FlexPass (4+ tickets, $45-50 per ticket); and Membership ($55 membership fee + one ticket at $40 or less for each show, as desired). In addition, the company continues to offer 30&Under Membership ($20 membership fee + one $20 ticket for each show, as desired); and Student Membership ($10 membership fee + one $10 ticket for each show, as desired).
