The life and work of Will Holt, known for his immeasurable contributions to folk music and the musical theatre, will be celebrated by the York Theatre Company.

Produced by Aaron Hagan, Lauren Sterling, and William Zeffiro, the tribute will feature friends and collaborators Charles Strouse, Gary William Friedman, Sherman Yellen, and Patricia Birch.

Performers Mary Foster Conklin, Rita Gardner, Stevie Holland, K.T. Sullivan, Jeb Brown, Michael Brian Dunn, Matthew Kacergis, Steve McCoy, Bill Zeffiro, Robert Creighton, Lauren Sterling, and The Broadway Dreams Chorus will sing selections from Holt's catalog, including from the musicals The Me Nobody Knows, Over Here!, Come Summer, Platinum, Taking My Turn, Jack, Walk on the Wild Side, and more. Musical direction for the evening will be provided by Christopher McGovern and Jacob Yates.

The tribute will take place on Monday, November 23, 2015, at 8:00 p.m., at the York Theatre Company at Saint Peter's (entrance on East 54th Street, just east of Lexington Avenue).

Loved by theatergoers as the lyricist behind the Tony-nominated Broadway classic The Me Nobody Knows with composer Gary William Friedman, Will Holt left a great legacy that demands celebration. In addition to more than half a dozen other musicals with Friedman -- including Taking My Turn, which was broadcast on PBS -- Holt also wrote musicals with Richard Adler and George Abbott, David Baker, and the Sherman Brothers, among many others. Outside of the musical theatre, he was known for his own recordings of folk songs and the music of Kurt Weill, as well as for writing the English-language lyrics for "Lemon Tree," which was a hit record for Trini Lopez, Peter, Paul, and Mary, and others.

There is no charge for tickets. However, reservations are required by November 20th. Contact the York box office at boxoffic@yorktheatre.org or by calling 212-935-5820 to reserve your tickets. Reservations are on a first-come-first-served basis.

The York Theatre Company is the only theater in New York City -- and one of very few in the world -- dedicated to developing and fully producing new musicals and preserving neglected, notable shows from the past. For over four decades, York's intimate, imaginative style of producing both original and classic musicals has resulted in critical acclaim and recognition from artists and audiences alike. Under the guidance of Producing Artistic Director James Morgan since 1997, the York has focused on new musicals in its Mainstage Series-most of them world, American, or New York premieres-by some of the field's most esteemed creators, and has also helped launch the careers of many talented new writers. Over 35 cast recordings from York Theatre Company productions are now available on CD, including its acclaimed revival of Closer Than Ever (2013 Off-Broadway Alliance Award for Best Revival); commercial transfers of such York premieres as The Musical of Musicals (The Musical!), Souvenir (Tony Award Nomination for actress Judy Kaye), and Jolson & Company, and revivals of Pacific Overtures and Sweeney Todd (four Tony Nominations including Best Revival) have all showcased the importance of the York and its programs.
