Full casting was announced today for In The Secret Sea, a new American play by Cate Ryan (The Picture Box) and directed by Tony Award© winner Martin Charnin (Annie). The cast will feature Shelly Burch (original company of Nine, "One Life to Live"), Paul Carlin (Temporal Powers at the Mint), Malachy Cleary (The Field at Irish Repertory Theatre), Glynnis O'Connor (TV's Our Town, "The Boy in the Plastic Bubble"), and Adam Petherbridge (Da at Irish Repertory Theatre).
In The Secret Sea will play a limited engagement of five weeks only this spring at The Beckett Theatre on Theatre Row (410 West 42nd Street between 9th and 10th Avenues). Previews begin Friday, April 15 in preparation for a Thursday, April 21 opening night; the show plays through Saturday, May 21 only.
In the play, a newly married couple and their parents confront a life and death decision. The outcome will change all of their lives forever.

CATE RYAN (Playwright). Plays include The Picture Box (Negro Ensemble Company in 2012; soon to be part of The Black Theater Troupe's 2016-2017 season in Phoenix, AZ); The Snow Room; All Saints Day; and The Way Home. Ms. Ryan has written a Broadway-bound musical with Thomas Meehan based on Ettore Scola's motion picture Le Bal. They have also written a motion picture based on The Boss Dog by the writer M. F. K. Fisher. Ms. Ryan has a B.S. in nursing, specializing in breast cancer, and works with the surgeon Gregory Latrenta, M.D. Member of The Dramatist's Guild.
MARTIN CHARNIN (Director) made his theatrical debut in 1957 as an authentic juvenile delinquent in the original company of West Side Story. He has since been involved in 138 Broadway, off-Broadway, and regional theatre productions as a lyricist, author, producer and director, and has garnered Tonys©, Emmys, Grammys, and the Peabody Award for Broadcasting. He has written with and directed such luminaries as Angela Lansbury, Eli Wallach, Marion Seldes, Anne Bancroft, Jack Lemmon, Fred Astaire, Barbra Streisand, Bernadette Peters, Joel Grey, Charles Strouse, Peter Stone, Harold Arlen, and Richard Rodgers. He is the original director and lyricist of Annie, the 30th longest running American musical. His new national tour of the show is currently entering its second year on the road.
