Broken Box Mime Theater has announced an additional performance of their newest show, ABOVE BELOW, which will play for one night only on Thursday, October 29, at Aaron Davis Hall (West 135th Street and Convent Avenue, 129 Convent Avenue), as part of the City College Center for the Arts fall season. Performed with live music, this special added performance gives audiences one last chance to catch the acclaimed production after it finishes its run at HERE Arts Center (145 6th Avenue) on October 25, 2015. This special City College Center for the Arts presentation is sponsored by The CUNY Dance Initiative.
Through movement and music, Broken Box Mime Theater performs a set of fresh original narratives that explore what is above, what is below, and how we find ourselves in the here and now. Inspired by place and perspective, and set to contemporary music mixed live by DJ Christopher Ross, ABOVE BELOW began performances on October 2, 2015, with an official opening night held on October 5, 2015. Tickets for all remaining performances are available by visiting www.brokenboxmime.com.
Broken Box Mime Theater is redefining "audience participation" by casting each audience member as the final playwright, filling in the invisible objects and environments with their own imaginings, memories, and visions; distilling theater down to its essentials. ABOVE BELOW plays Thursdays - Mondays in the DOT Theater at HERE at 7pm, with Sundays at 2pm. Their separate children's show, specifically tailored for families, runs concurrently at 12:00 PM on October 17 and October 24. For complete information, please visit the company's website: www.brokenboxmime.com.
Broken Box Mime Theater will take you on an epic journey into the impossible depths of a shoe store, time travel to the Renaissance as a court jester tries haplessly to turn the head of his true love, and leave you standing on a subway platform with strangers who are more connected than they know. A contemporary company for contemporary audiences, Broken Box Mime Theater is an artistic collaboration that combines the styles of Pilobolus and Blue Man Group with a unique twist.
The Broken Box Mime Theater Company includes Becky Baumwoll, Joel Perez, Géraldine Dulex, Leah Wagner, Tasha Milkman, Joshua Wynter, Blake Habermann, David Jenkins, Matt Zambrano, Nick Abeel, Marissa Molnar, and Dinah Berkeley. With lighting design by Jamie Roderick and sound design by DJ Christopher Ross, ABOVE BELOW was workshopped in May 2015 at the Green Building as a co-production with Gowanus Art & Production.
Broken Box Mime Theater (BKBX) is a collaborative non-profit theater company that performs contemporary short plays through mime. Set to lights and music, pieces range from realistic to metaphorical, heart-wrenching to hilarious, cinematic to intimate and everything in between, held together by the belief that great theater requires little ornamentation, only great vision. Comprised of 12 company members, BKBX is the recipient of the 2014 White Pines Residency, the 2014 Innovative Theatre Award for Outstanding Ensemble, the 2015 CUNY Dance Initiative Residency, and nominated for three 2015 New York Innovative Theatre Awards for their latest original work, Topography. BKBX's mission is three-fold: to activate the imaginations of our audiences, contemporize the art of mime, and remind us all of the power of simple storytelling.
