Blue Man Group, the wildly successful Off-Broadway show and entertainment phenomenon, will be the opening performance at this year’s New York Innovative Theatre Awards (NYITAwards) on September 22, 2008.

Blue Man Group, best known for their wildly popular theatrical shows and concerts, is pleased to be a part of this year’s NYITAwards, which were created to bring recognition to the great work being done in New York City’s Off-Off-Broadway community.  “We are excited about participating in this New York tradition of honoring diverse theater in NYC,” states Blue Man performer Wes Day.  “Blue Man Group celebrates its New York roots and is proud to be grounded in this vibrant New York theatre culture.

Blue Man Group has astounded sold-out audiences at the Astor Place Theatre in New York City since it opened to rave reviews.  What began as the most unique off-Broadway experience in ages has turned into an international sensation, combining music, comedy and multimedia theatrics to create a totally unique form of entertainment. The blissful party atmosphere created at their live events has become the trademark of a Blue Man Group experience.  Currently, their theatrical shows run concurrently in New York, Boston, Chicago, Las Vegas, Orlando, Berlin, Oberhausen, Stuttgart, and Tokyo.  This fall, The MegaStar World Tour, the Blue Man rock concert experience, will be touring cities throughout Canada and Europe.

The company has applied its unique creative process to a wide variety of projects, including the recording of five albums: the Grammy-nominated Audio, The Complex, Live At The Venetian ® - Las Vegas, How To Be A MegaStar Live, and Canta Conmigo.

Blue Man Group has ventured into toy development (with their Keyboard Experience and Percussion Tubes, produced by ToyQuest), film and TV scoring (The Jury, Robots, and the upcoming Space Chimps), commercial campaigns, television programs (like Scrubs and Arrested Development), and a children’s museum exhibit, Making Waves, which is currently touring the U.S.A.

As the company grows, it remains true to its vision of providing exciting experiences in a variety of media, which appeal to a broad range of age groups and cultural backgrounds.
