A current production of OUR TOWN playing at the Barrow Street Theatre has recently become the longest running production in the show's history, surpassing the Broadway's record of 337 performances. After opening February 26th of this year, OUR TOWN received critical acclaim and has remained open to sell-out audiences.
The new staging by director David Cromer has reinvented the show, diverging from the original spare staging. Tappan Wilder, author Thorton Wilder's executor, has stated he appreciates and approves of the new staging. In an interview with the New York Times, Tappan Wilder said, "This is a very important production. [Those who think they know the play leave saying] 'Gee, I never know this chapter in this play' reaction."

The current New York production of Our Town began performances on February 17, 2009, with an official opening night on February 26th where it received rave reviews at the downtown venue (whose space has been completely redesigned for this staging). Our Town went on to win the Lucille Lortel Award for Outstanding Production and Outstanding Direction.
