One of New York City's most exciting young companies committed to new plays and playwrights, Babel Theatre Project (Christmas is Miles Away), comes to 59E59 with the World Premiere of BRACK'S LAST BACHELOR PARTY, an imaginative and wildly funny look at Judge Brack, Eilert Lovborg and George Tesman from Ibsen's Hedda Gabler.

As the three men from Hedda Gabler battle it out at a bachelor party, camaraderie and good-hearted competition devolve into drunkenness and debauchery as they confront a dark vision of the future. Is there any way to avert the coming disaster, or are we all doomed? Smart, masculine, and irresistibly funny.

The cast features Alexander Alioto (Benten Kozo and Cellophane at The Flea, Finding the Sun at Steppenwolf), Michael Crane (Doris to Darlene at Playwrights Horizons, The Young Left at Cherry Lane), and Crystal Finn (With Claws and Beak at 3LD, The Cherry Orchard at Trinity Rep).

The design teams includes Tristan Jeffers (set design), Simon Cleveland (lighting design), Anthony Gabrielle (sound design), Becky Lasky (costume design) and Eric Reynolds (prop design).

Sam Marks (playwright) received his NYC Off Broadway debut last fall when his play The Joke was produced at Studio Dante, directed by Sam Gold. Other NYC productions include: Nelson (Theater Row), Craft (The Flea Theater, produced by The Bat Theater Company), and The Bigger Man (Center Stage). A recent graduate oF Brown's Graduate Playwriting program, Sam was named "50 to Watch" by The Dramatist Magazine in 2007. Sam's work has also been produced and developed by Arena Stage, the Atlantic Theater, the Babel Theatre Project, The Berkshire Playwrights Lab, Circle X Theater (LA), Manhattan Theater Club, Playwrights Horizons, the Perishable Theater (Providence), New York Theater Workshop, Playwrights Horizons, the Public, the Rattlestick Theater, the Vineyard Theater, and many others.

Sam is currently working on a screenplay produced by Ira Glass based on an episode of This American Life, and developing a TV series based on his play The Joke, with Ridley Scott's Production Company, ScottFree Productions. He has had his TV and film scripts optioned and developed by HBO, Greenestreet Films, MTV, Epoch Films, and Fugitive Films. Sam has taught playwriting and screenwriting at Brown, Harvard, Providence College and Yale. He is a member of the P73 writers group. The Joke and Nelson are published by Samuel French Inc.

Geordie Broadwater (director) is the founder and artistic director of Babel Theatre Project, a theater company devoted to producing new plays from exciting emerging writers. Last spring Geordie directed the critically acclaimed US premier of Christmas is Miles Away by Chloe Moss, 2009 winner of the Susan Smith Blackburn award. Other directing credits include: You May Go Now by Bekah Brunstetter (2008 NYIT award winner, best full-length play), Stomp and Shout (an' Work it All Out) by James Carmichael (Time Out New York pick of the week), the world premier of Neighborhood 3: Requisition of Doom by Jennifer Haley, Food Porn by Andy Bragen, A Great Place to be From by Norman Lasca, The Dumb Waiter by Harold Pinter, Othello and Macbeth.

Most recently Geordie was the 2009 Visiting Director at Harvard University where he wrote and directed an original adaptation of The Flies by Jean-Paul Sartre. Geordie has an M.F.A. from the Brown/Trinity Rep Consortium.
