A marriage between two plays about marriage, one gay, and one straight, BALLS! The Testosterone Plays of Monica Bauer will have a limited run at the WorkShop Theater's Main Stage from November 19th thru December 5th. Written by award-winning playwright Monica Bauer and directed by John D. FitzGibbon, the evening features two intriguing and entertaining one act plays with all male casts: Made for Each Other and Two Men Walked into a Bar.
In Two Men Walked into a Bar, two Marine veterans from very different wars (Vietnam and Iraq) meet in a seedy Alabama bar at 3am for drinks, revenge, and maybe even murder as they face off over their wives. This dark comedy will star
Aaron Gonzalez, Nick Ruggeri, and
John Fico.
A boy meets boy love story in the shadow of Alzheimer's, Made for Each Other is a bittersweet romance, a drama with comedy written specifically for actor
John Fico (
A.R. Gurney's Screen Play at The Flea, the recent hit NYMF musical The Most Ridiculous Thing You Ever Hoid). What kind of man proposes marriage on the third date, and what kind of man says "yes?" Are they doomed or "made for each other?" A tour de force for one actor playing four roles, Made for Each Other appeared in the recent Planet Connections Theatre Festivity, where it was nominated for Outstanding Solo Show and Best Actor in a Solo Show (
John Fico).
Playwright Bauer has also set up a special panel discussion tied in with the run of the play scheduled for Sunday, November 21st after the 3 pm matinee of BALLS! The Testosterone Plays. The panel, titled "Women Off-Off Broadway" will feature special guests
Tessa LaNeve (Literary Manager at
Primary Stages) and Glory Kadigan (Founder of the Planet Connections Theatre Festivity) and more discussing the way Off-Off Broadway has evolved to nourish the development of new works by women. There will also be a networking reception after the panel.
BALLS! The Testosterone Plays will run from November 19th thru December 5th at the WorkShop Main Stage Theatre (321 W. 36th Street, 4th Floor between 8th and 9th) playing performances on Weekdays at 8pm, Saturdays at 2pm and 8pm and Sundays at 3pm (the show is dark on Tuesdays and from November 23rd-25th for the Thanksgiving holiday). Tickets are $18 and can be bought online at www.BrownPaperTickets.com.
