Babble's soothing seascapes and schools of fish are projected all around to delight and astonish little ones, while four a capella singers provide a lullaby of vocal harmonies to music by award-winning composer, David Goodall (Silver Rose Award for Best Sound Design). Given the freedom to move around the performance space and the opportunity to personally engage with the singers, each child can experience the performance at their own pace. Babble was developed in close creative consultation with nursery schools and language specialists in Belfast, Northern Ireland, who helped to create this unique atmosphere, which encourages learning and interaction.
Founded in 1988, Replay Theatre Company is Northern Ireland's oldest theater company for young audiences. The company makes innovative, quality work for everyone under the age of 18, including school groups, families and festivals, as well as children and young people with profound or multiple learning difficulties. At the heart of every show they create, Replay prioritizes the patrons' needs, developing each production through creative consultation with its intended audience and those who live and work with them. In September 2015, Replay Theatre Company will host the world's first BabyDay in Belfast, creating an arts festival experience designed for the littlest family members.
The four talented singers in Babble are Victoria Armstrong, Cat Barter, Ruby Campbell and Doireann McKenna. The production is directed by Anna Newell, with music by composer David Goodall.
