Aspillaga, Dellapina, Esparza Set For Rattlestick Playwrights' underneathmybed

Rattlestick Playwrights Theater continues its 16th season with the world premiere of underneathmybed, written by Florencia Lozano and directed by Pedro Pascal. Performances of underneathmybed begin Wednesday, September 1 at the Rattlestick Theatre (224 Waverly Place). The official opening night is set for Friday, September 10. The production is scheduled to run through October 10.

The cast of ten features: Vanessa Aspillaga, Maria Cellaria-Mancini, Matthew Dellapina, Audrey Esparza, Vivia Font, Charles Goforth, Yetta Gottesman, Juan Hernandez, Paula Pizzi, and Marina Pulido.

The creative team includes Raul Abrego (scenic design), Olivera Gajic (costume design), Nicole Pearce (lighting design), Janie Bullard (sound design), Eugenia Furneaux-Arends (properties) and Katie Takacs (technical direction). Melissa Mae Gregus is Production Stage Manager and Michael John Carroll is Assistant Stage Manager.

In underneathmybed, there's something underneath Daisy's bed...something or someone. Everything is not fine in Newton. The ghosts of a foreign dirty war invade the home of the chaotic Jimenez family, while a woman remembers the moment in her life when she disappeared for good.

Rattlestick Playwrights Theater is a multi-award-winning company which has produced over forty-six world premieres in the past fifteen seasons and was the recipient of the 2007 Ross Wetzsteon Memorial OBIE Award for its work developing new and innovative work. Rattlestick's Advisory Board participates in The Emerging Playwrights Project, which matches a new playwright with an established artist for an experienced eye and creative support. Playwright and artist mentors have included Edward Albee, Jon Robin Baitz, Zoe Caldwell, Arthur Kopit, Craig Lucas, Joe Mantello, Terrence McNally and Marsha Norman. Previous plays include Two Boys in a Bed, Message to Michael, Carpool, Volunteer Man, A Trip to the Beach, Ascendancy, Stuck, Vick's Boy, The Messenger, Saved or Destroyed, Neil's Garden, My Special Friend, Faster, Bliss, St. Crispin's Day, Where We're Born, Five Flights, Boise, Finer Noble Gases, God Hates The Irish: The Ballad of Armless Johnny, Miss Julie, Acts of Mercy: passion-play, Cagelove, It Goes Without Saying, Dark Matters, Stay, American Sligo, Rag and Bone, War, Geometry of Fire, That Pretty Pretty; or The Rape Play, The Amish Project, Killers and Other Family, Post No Bills, Blind, the Off-Broadway GLAAD Award-nominated hit The Last Sunday in June, Craig Wright's The Pavilion (Drama Desk nominee - Outstanding Play of 2005) and Lady (Drama Desk nominee - Outstanding Play of 2008), as well as The Aliens by Annie Baker (2010 Obie Award winner for Best New American Play). And, most recently, Little Doc , by Dan Klores.

Florencia Lozano (Playwright) was born in Princeton, NJ and raised in Newton, MA and earned degrees from Brown University and New York University. She is best known for her portrayal of the tough as nails attorney Téa Delgado on the daytime television drama "One Life To Live." Her other television credits include "Law & Order: Criminal Intent," "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit," "Gossip Girl," "Lipstick Jungle" and "Ugly Betty." Florencia has also appeared in numerous films. She played opposite Halle Berry and Bruce Willis in "Perfect Stranger" and recently starred in Franc. Reyes' "The Ministers" with Harvey Keitel and John Leguizamo. Some of her other film credits include "Bittersweet Place," "Deception," "Transbeman" and "Veronika Decides to Die." In addition to her film and television work, Florencia is also an accomplished stage actress, and playwright. Her stage credits include Where's My Money (LAB, MTC), Dirty Story (LAB), Macbeth (Delacorte), Last Easter (MCC), Privilege (Second Stage) and Right You Are (National Actors Theatre). Her first full length play entitled Under Her Breath was written while she was at Brown. Two of her ten minute plays, Bitch and Charlie Go Back to Charlie's House and Sheila, Jack, Claire Danes and The Man On My Roof were produced by the LAByrinth Theater Company where she is a member and associate director. She has worked at New York Theatre Workshop, 52nd Street Project, Williamstown Theatre Festival, and at the Eugene O'Neill Playwright's Conference. underneathmybed, Ms. Lozano's second full-length play, has been in development since 2008 (with director Pedro Pascal) and workshopped at LAByrinth, Dixon Place, and at Rattlestick's Evening Reading Series.

Pedro Pascal (Director) is a member of the LAByrinth Theater Company and has developed work with them as a writer, actor and director. Florencia Lozano's underneathmybed was first presented at the LAB Summer Intensive '08, then again as part of The Barn Series/Live Nude Plays at The Public Theater. He directed Lozano's third play Girl in Window for the same festival the following year. His first play Flaca Loves Bone was part of the LAByrinth Summer Intensive '09, directed by Sarah Silverman, and was then presented again as part of LAB's Punch the Clock Festival, which he directed. He has been working with David Van Asselt and Rattlestick Playwrights Theater, directing readings of Daniel Talbott's Yosemite and David Anzuelo's Killing Play. This is Pedro's directorial debut.
