Barbara Ligeti, by special arrangement with The Private Theatre (John Gould Rubin, Artistic Director) and Sacred Monsters, presents the world premiere of a new solo show, Turning Page, written and performed by Angelica Page (Gore Vidal's The Best Man) with direction by Tony Award® nominee Wilson Milam (The Lieutenant of Inishmore). Performances begin Thursday, October 11, 2012 for a limited engagement through Sunday, October 28, 2012 at The Cherry Lane Studio Theatre (38 Commerce Street).
Geraldine Page's sparkling career earned her a record-breaking eight Academy Award-nominations and made her one of the most influential American artists of the 20th century, but her personal life was marked by loss and tragedy. Turning Page is the triumphant and heartbreaking true story of one of the most celebrated actresses of all time, written and performed by the person who knew her best: her own daughter. This funny, moving, and deeply compassionate play is a tribute to an icon we lost too soon as well as a richly woven expression from a daughter coming to terms with her own complicated legacy.
Quoting from her play, Ms. Page read, "I want to live in the realm of make believe. Of fire and ice. Of glittering mystical castles of my own making whenever I choose. Where I create my own reality. Even if it is only a fantasy…the theater is where I belong...where else are you encouraged to cheat a little to the left, steal the scene and be the best liar in town. And there's the audience, begging to have their breath taken away and their hearts ripped out of their bodies. They're just waiting to be killed. Like lambs to the slaughter."
Turning Page will play the following performance schedule: Mondays at 7:00 p.m., Thursdays & Fridays at 8:00 p.m., Saturdays at 3:00 p.m. & 8:00p.m. and Sundays at 5:00 p.m. Please note: there will be an added performance on Wednesday evening, October 24th at 7:00 p.m.
