All For One Theater, which develops and supports the art of solo theater, presents Tony Award-nominee Tom Hewitt in Aaron Mark's Another Medea and Sarah Jane Johnson in her play Devil in A Box. Both plays will be presented in revolving repertory at The Wild Project, 195 East 3rd Street from tonight, January 14th through February 1st, 2015.
Another Medea, written and directed by Aaron Mark, is inspired by the works of Euripides. The chilling drama tells the story of the incarcerated Marcus Sharp, a charismatic New York actor who recounts his dual obsession with a wealthy doctor named Jason and the myth of Medea and how it leads to tragedy. Both ancient and contemporary, this provocative, minimalist thriller stars TONY Award-nominee Tom Hewitt in what writer/director Aaron Mark calls "Grand Guignol horror in the style of Spalding Gray." The battle between Medea and Jason has been told and retold, but never quite like this.
Tom Hewitt, who will star in "Doctor Zhivago" on Broadway this spring, has appeared on Broadway as Pontius Pilate in Jesus Christ Superstar, Billy Flynn in Chicago, Dracula in Dracula The Musical, Frank N Furter in The Rocky Horror Show (Tony, Drama Desk nominations), The Boys from Syracuse, Scar in The Lion King, School for Scandal, and The Sisters Rosenzweig. He has toured in Urinetown, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels and Peter Pan and appeared Off Broadway in Treasure Island, Jeffery, Beau Jest (Outer Critics nomination), Richard III, and Othello.
Playwright/director Aaron Mark is a New York-based playwright, director, and filmmaker. His play, Another Medea, starring Tom Hewitt, was presented by AFO at the Cherry Lane, and his other plays have been developed by New York Theatre Workshop, Labyrinth, Theater for the New City, the Blank Theatre, and American Theater Group. Aaron's directing credits include The Mystery of Irma Vep for Berkshire Theatre Group, Ben Rimalower's award-winning monodrama, Patti Issues, and Hedwig and the Angry Inch at New World Stages for BC/EFA. His independent feature films are Commentary (starring Tom Hewitt), Random Unrelated Projects, Do Not Duplicate (upcoming) and the documentary, Zbornik Developing.

Devil in A Box, written and performed by Sarah Jane Johnson, was originally directed by Libby King. For a small town girl from Nebraska, a summer weekend in Paris changes her life forever. A casual flirtation ends in a hospital, a Police Station and the endless confusion of justice in a foreign land. With honesty, fierce wit, and a 24-ounce can of Miller Lite Sarah Jane shares her true story of trauma and finds the liberation to laugh in spite of it all. Ms. Johnson said: "Devil in A Box is an intimate look at how violence against women affects us all, with just enough humor to be able to swallow the truth."
Sarah Jane has worked at regional theatres across the country including the Colorado Shakespeare Festival, Swine Palace Productions in Baton Rouge, Depot Theatre in upstate New York and Chashama in New York City. Sarah Jane received her MFA from Louisiana State University's Professional Actor Training Program. During her enrollment at LSU, she was nominated for the Irene Ryan Award, a nationally recognized award for excellence in acting. Devil in a Box has been presented at Stage Left Studio in New York City, Out North Contemporary Art House in Anchorage, Alaska, and Bunnell Street Art Center in Homer, Alaska. Sarah Jane, and the creation process of the play are featured in New York City filmmaker Karin Anderson's documentary that interweaves the real stories of rape survivors with expert interviews to give greater voice to the crisis of sexual assault in the United States. The documentary won the New York Award at Chain NYC Festival. Specializing in teen relationship issues, sexual misconduct and assault, Sarah Jane has recounted her survivor story and conducted educational programming for thousands of high school and college students and faculty across the country with Campus Outreach Services. She created Transforming Trauma, a writing and performance workshop for survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault, providing a pathway for each survivor to move forward through their trauma, celebrate their bodies and reclaim their voice.
Devil in A Box director Libby King won Best Female Performance at the Dublin Fringe Festival 2007 for the role of Sarah Springer in the TEAM's Particularly in the Heartland, which she created. In 2008, she created the role of Carrie Campbell in Architecting, produced by the National Theatre of Scotland at the Traverse Theatre, Edinburgh. Favorite roles: Astrov in Uncle Vanya (CSC, director Rachel Chavkin), Sarah Springer in Particularly in the Heartland (Dublin Fringe, Galway, UK TOUR, Harbour Front Center (Toronto), PS122, BAC (London), Traverse Theatre).
Devil in A Box, which runs 75 minutes without intermission, begins previews on Friday, January 16th at 7 PM, opens officially on Sunday, January 18th at 7 PM and continue in rep through February 1st, 2015.
All For One Artistic director Michael Wolk said: "It's a thrill to kick off our 2015 season with these two taut crime thrillers -- one mythic and mesmerizing, the other terrifyingly true. Both reach out and rivet you - Another Medea with its insidiously accessible and charming portrayal of man inexorably drawn toward a monstrous act of retribution, and Devil in A Box by bringing the tightly-paced suspense of a courtroom drama to its story of sexual assault, the search for justice, and personal redemption."
ALL FOR ONE THEATER was founded in 2010 by Michael Wolk to create and nurture a community of solo performers, writers, directors and teachers committed to developing the solo form and inspiring audiences with the power of the individual voice. It began on 11/11/11 with a 10 day solo theatre festival at Theatre 80 St. Marks and continued with successful AFO festivals in 2012 and 2013 at The Cherry Lane Theatre, offering an overall total of 35 solo shows and 28 workshops and 17 panels. In 2012 AFO began hosting monthly salons, providing solo performers the opportunity to share and workshop their shows while networking with the All For One community. In 2013 All For One expanded its workshop offerings into a year-round program and selected James Judd as its first Artist-in-Residence.
In 2014, All For One graduated from a festival format to a full season dedicated to superb solo theater that forwards and informs the cultural conversation. AFO has become the sole organization developing solo work year round. This fall AFO's SoloLab presented seven new solo shows-in-development at 64E4 Underground, including Annabelle Gurwitch's I See You Made An Effort, adapted from her New York Times Bestseller, and Obie Award winner Deborah Margolin's 8 Stops.
