The industry reading of the new play, The Joys? of Being Yiddish, will be presented on Friday, June 9th at 10:45am and 2:00pm at The New 42 Rehearsal Studios (Studio 9A), 229 W. 42nd Street.
A light comedy about dark Jews, The Joys? of Being Yiddish is set in a rooming house in 1967 in Brighton Beach. The 90-minute comedy tells the story of the fractured Gazonsky family as they collide on Rosh Hashana and try not to kill each other.
The cast features Alix Korey (Fiddler on The Roof, All Shook Up), Marilyn Sokol (Conversations With My Father, Old Jews Telling Jokes), Karl Kenzler (You Can't Take It With You, Fiddler on the Roof), Bobby Underwood, & Eloise Kropp (Cats, Dames at Sea).
The Joys? of Being Yiddish is written by Mark Lonow & Jo Anne Astrow (Co-owners of the world famous Improv), and directed by David Alpert (If/Then, The Trip to Bountiful). The reading features casting by Dale Brown Casting, General Management by Evan Bernardin Productions, and Stage Management by Ellie Handel.
