AN EVENING AT THE CARLYLE, A New Musical Revue presented by Algonquin Theater Productions, will extend its previously announced four-week engagement to an open-ended run at The Algonquin Theater (123 East 24th Street) where it plays in repertory with the musical Sessions, now in its 2nd year. In the tradition of Off-Broadway revues like The Shoestring Revue, Starting Here Starting Now and Upstairs at O'Neil's, AN EVENING AT THE CARLYLE is a musical entertainment featuring a talented young cast and a bright, original score commenting on current events, celebrities and life and love in the Big Apple. The show features original music and lyrics by Al Tapper (Sessions), musical direction by David Wolfson (Mark Twain's Blues at the DR2), musical staging by Rachelle Rak (Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, Fosse) and direction by Tom Herman (Mark Twain's Blues).
AN EVENING AT THE CARLYLE transports you 40 blocks north to the swankiest "mecca northeast of Tribeca," the Upper East Side's Bemelmans Bar in the Hotel Carlyle. The revolving door of patrons range from aspiring artists to down-and-out execs; from optimistic lovers to the torch-carrying lovelorn; from surprise celebrity guests to the inevitable celebrity wannabes; and from barflies toasting to their memories to those who drink to forget. For less than the cost of a round of cocktails, you join them all for an effervescent 90-minute night out at one of Manhattan's most infamous watering holes.
The parade of neurotic/quixotic New Yorkers is played by a cast of six: Amanda Gabbard, Dennis Holland, Kelli Maguire, Michael F. McGuirk, Rachelle Rak and Jason Rowland. AN EVENING AT THE CARLYLE features a scenic design by John McDermott, lighting design by Brant Thomas Murray, costume design by Cathy Small and sound design by Josh Liebert.
AN EVENING AT THE CARLYLE, A New Musical Revue, plays Sunday-Tuesday at 7 p.m, at The Algonquin Theater (123 East 24th Street). Via subway, take the N/R/W or the 6 train to 23rd Street. Tickets are $35 and available through SmartTix.com, 212-868-4444. ($20 tickets are available to senior and students The Algonquin Theater box office.)
