ADDY & UNO, the hit family musical, returns on Sunday, Nov 18th to Theatre Row after its summer hiatus. The show will play every Sunday at noon until January 6th. With an original score, heartwarming story, and hilariously adorable puppets, the 50 minute musical comedy tells the story of a young boy with autism as his friends help him compete in his school's math competition. As featured on CBS National News, NBC Sunday in New York, and Fox 5's Good Day New York, the musical aims to educate typically developing children about peers with differing abilities, while allowing those children to see themselves represented on stage.
Addy & Uno is a heartfelt and hilarious journey celebrating hope, big dreams and the beauty of differences. Uno has plenty of mathematical ability, but he also has a disability: autism. Uno gains the courage to enter his school's math competition with help from friends who face challenges of their own: Addy has attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder; Melody is visually impaired; Seymour has hearing loss; and RJ uses a wheelchair because he has cerebral palsy.
Created by Dr. Nava R. Silton, a developmental psychologist, ADDY & UNO is a spinoff of her ten comic book series Realabilities used to teach kids about their peers with differing abilities. "It's people first", says Dr. Silton, "It's RJ who loves rockets first, it's Uno who loves math, it's Addy who is hilarious and spunky, and they have a disability. We want the audience to get to know them as kids and as people." The show is directed by Emmy-nominated Donna Drake (Netflix's Julie's Greenroom and John Tartaglia's ImaginOcean), with music by Bonnie Gleicher (singer/songwriter who was seen on Broadway in Jane Eyre), and is produced by Drama Desk nominated Tom D'Angora and Michael D'Angora (NEWSical The Musical, The Marvelous Wonderettes).
The show is appropriate for all ages and the venue is wheelchair accessible.
