Resonance Ensemble (Artistic Director, Eric Parness; Managing Director, Rachel Reiner) presents a reading of the new play 23 KNIVES - by Christopher Stetson Boal (Crazy for the Dog) and directed by Eric Parness - on Monday, June 23 at 7:00pm at Manhattan Theatre Club (311 West 43rd Street, 8th Floor).

Taking place around the action of Shakespeare's JULIUS CAESAR, 23 KNIVES is the untold story of Antistius, the man credited as being the world's first forensic scientist, as he attempts to unravel the true nature of Caesar's murder. If you think you know who really killed Julius Caesar, think again!

Directed by Resonance Ensemble Artistic Director Eric Parness, the cast of 23 KNIVES features Patrick Melville (as Antistius); Ryan Tramont (as Janus); Alberto Bonilla (as Antonius); and Todd Alan Crain (as Musa).

Christopher Stetson Boal (Playwright) is author of the critically acclaimed dark comedy CRAZY FOR THE DOG, which Resonance Ensemble transferred Off-Broadway in 2006 for a 7 week commercial run. He is also the creator and author of THE CONTINUING ADVENTURES OF DICK DANGER, a late-night comedy/adventure serial which ran for two and a half years in New York. Boal's short film WALKING CHARLEY is the winner of two Aurora Awards and has been featured in a number of prominent film festivals. Boal is a member of the BMI Musical Theatre Workshop, and a former member of Curt Dempster's playwrights lab at Ensemble Studio Theatre.

Eric Parness is the Artistic Director of Resonance Ensemble, where he has directed productions of ANTIGONE, THE LOWER DEPTHS, LA TEMPESTAD, last season's world premiere of THE MAIL ORDER BRIDE by Charles L. Mee, and adapted and directed Anton Chekhov's THE CHERRY ORCHARD earlier this season. Other directing credits include the recent critical hit CRAZY FOR THE DOG at the Bouwerie Lane, FIT TO KILL at the Clurman, Oberon Theatre Ensemble's THE WINTER'S TALE, OF MICE AND MEN and MEASURE FOR MEASURE, Hypothetical Theatre's KRYPTONITE CITY, and new work with adobe theatre company, Ensemble Studio Theatre and Vital Theater Company.

Under the Artistic Direction of Eric Parness and Managing Direction of Rachel Reiner, Resonance Ensemble is dedicated to developing new theatrical work inspired by the timelessness and universalism of the classics, and to producing resonating groups of theatrical presentations that echo across countless cultures and eras to confront themes and ideas significant to audiences of today.

The reading of 23 KNIVES is the culmination of a week-long workshop of the commissioned play as part of Resonance Ensemble's Play Development Program, funded in part by The Nancy Quinn Fund, a project of A.R.T./New York, and with public funds from the Manhattan Community Arts Fund, supported by the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs and administered by the Lower Manhattan Cultural Center.

The reading of Christopher Stetson Boal's 23 KNIVES will take place on Monday, June 23, 2008 at 7:00pm at Manhattan Theatre Club (311 West 43rd Street, 8th Floor). A wine and cheese reception will follow. To assure entrance, please RSVP to info@resonanceensemble.org.
