Debra Ehrhardt and Soho Playhouse present LAST OF THE KNOTTS, the semi-autobiographical play written and performed by Doug Knott, directed by Chris DeCarlo - with performances beginning Friday, April 25 prior to an official press opening of Saturday, May 3 at Soho Playhouse (15 Vandam Street) in Manhattan.
Selected "Best of the Fest" at the Hollywood Fringe Festival, LAST OF THE KNOTTS is Doug Knott's irreverent and thorny battle with becoming a father... or Knott! After putting up with a lifetime's worth of pain from his own abusive Dad (the Judge), Doug promises himself and his old man to be "the last of the Knotts." That is, until he falls in love with a beautiful woman with a pet boa constrictor... and "one of his sperm clings to a lifeboat inside her." LAST OF THE KNOTTS is 60 minutes, no intermission.
LAST OF THE KNOTTS has scenic design by Gilbert Johnquest and dramaturgy by Eric Trules.
Doug Knott (Writer & Performer) has been a performance poet and stage performer in LA for many years. He produced and emceed a hit cult variety show at the Lhasa Club, and later had his own nightclub in the 80's. As a member of the poetry-performance group, the Carma Bums, he toured the Western states and also won the revived Gong Show. Doug is the author of several poetry books and wrote, produced and starred in several videos, some of which won national prizes in the 90's. In recent years he has done solo performances at the Electric Lodge, Highways, the Santa Monica Playhouse, and the Lounge and Asylum Lab Theaters. Doug is currently president of the board of directors of Beyond Baroque Foundation & Literary Arts Center in Venice, CA.
