Some events are more epic than others. When the curtain rises on the first meeting between Edvard Munch and Vincent van Gogh, we can expect the unexpected. Do the icons of the modern age have anything to say about today’s fragmented world? Or are they frozen in time as simply icons?
The Painter has been produced to mark Edvard Munch’s 150th anniversary, which is being celebrated around the world. On the one hand it is an intellectual meeting between two giants, and on the other an explosive encounter between two egocentric artists. The Jo Strømgren Kompani presents the meeting between Munch and van Gogh as puppet theatre combined with their distinctive, playful brand of dance theatre expression.
Co-production between the Jo Strømgren Kompani, Ulrike Quade, Nordland Visual Theatre and Oldenburgisches Staatstheater. In cooperation with the National Touring Theatre of Norway.
