"A startling notion of a strong, raw and topical theme. It is a party to hear a solistensemble so unified and sovereign (...) The English composer Benjamin Britten 2 akt opera is strong, but the phenomenal music. And stage 2 is wonderful for such performances, because we come so close on Chamber game, voices and content. " The Aftenposten wrote after the premiere in 2011.
The Rape of Lucretia had world premiere in 1946, and was the first of several Chamber operas by Benjamin Britten's hand. The Opera is written for eight singers and 13 musicians. Librettisten Ronald Duncan based his text on the play Le viol de Lucrèce by André Obey, and used Greek tells style, where Britten allows two soloists to replace the kommenterende choir from ancient theater, as one female and one male tells. National Opera's production has been a huge success for Director Thaddeus Strassberger. To say it with the newspaper: "This should oppsetjinga opplevast."
