The Norwegian Baroque Orchestra was established in 1988 as one of the first independent early music ensembles in Scandinavia. The orchestra performs at a high level, and leads the way for early music played on historical instruments in Norway. The orchestra has played at a number of prestigious European concert halls and festivals, and has gained recognition at home in Norway through the Bergen International Festival, the St. Olav's Festival, and Oslo Chamber Music Festival.
German-Norwegian Gottfried von der Goltz has been the orchestra's Artistic Director since 2007, and is regarded as an eminent baroque violin virtuoso. He is also the Artistic Director of the famous Freiburger Barockorchester ensemble. Gottfried von der Goltz studied music at the Juilliard School in New York and the conservatory in Freiburg. The collaboration between the Norwegian Baroque Orchestra and the Norwegian National Opera & Ballet continues, and we will be holding concerts in the Second House again this season.
