Five out of five stars was the verdict in Time Out St. Petersburg when the Norwegian National Ballet performed at the Mikhailovsky Theatre in St. Petersburg for two evenings in autumn 2013. The company's first overseas tour in 14 years was quickly followed by invitations from Paris, Baden-Baden and Granada.
On 22 September 2014 the entire company travels to the Théâtre des Champs Elysées in Paris to perform three ballets by master choreographer Ji?í Kylián. Bella Figura, Gods and Dogs and Symphony of Psalms were created in different decades and show Kylián as both lyrical and playful, intimate and raw.
On 20 February 2015 the tour moves to Germany. At the Festspielhaus Baden-Baden, dancers will perform Alexander Ekman's Swan Lake pastiche Resin, Daniel Proietto's audience favourite Cygne and Liam Scarlett's evocative Vespertine. Parts of Jo Strømgren's Lamentate will also premiere here in a programme called Nordic Light. At the end of June 2015, the Norwegian National Ballet has been invited to Granada in Spain.
But we aren't just travelling to foreign climes: in autumn 2014 the company sets out on an extensive tour of Norway with Cina Espejord's ballet Over the head beneath the skin, in which seven dancers talk about their lives off-stage, while dancing on the stage. "An honest, arresting performance with charm and vulnerability," wrote Dagbladet after the Oslo premiere in spring 2013.
Between 16 September and 7 October 2014 you can experience it in Skien, Larvik, Nøtterøy, Ullensaker, Elverum, Gjøvik, Oppdal, Molde, Ålesund, Førde, Sogndal, Os, Sandnes, Arendal, Drammen and Fredrikstad. The tour is in conjunction with Riksteatret.
