Joseph Haydn is not very well known as an opera composer, but his collection of 24 operas contain several masterpieces. One of them is L'sola disabitata, composed in 1779.
L'isola disabitata tells the story of the sisters Costanza and Silvia, who have lived on a desert island for 13 years after a shipwreck during a storm. Costanza's husband, Gernando, and his partner come back to search for Gernando's wife. Silvia, who has never before seen a man, is carried away by the unfamiliar feelings that arise within her.
