The Norwegian National Ballet School is turning 50, and we are celebrating and celebrating in the Main House! On-stage, nearly 120 students aged 6 to 16 will demonstrate the school's full breadth and high standard over three acts. They have also invited former students who are now professional dancers with The Norwegian National Ballet or abroad. Just to top things off, they will dance to live music played by a full orchestra in the pit.
Since its inception in 1965, The Norwegian National Ballet School has provided a source of Norwegian ballet dancers at the very highest level. The school offers Norway's leading ballet training for students up to the age of 16, and since 2008 has worked with the City of Oslo to integrate educational and ballet training at Ruseløkka school, the only one of its kind in the country.
The school is also of a high standard in international terms. In recent years students have shone in the annual Nordic Baltic Ballet Competition in Sweden, not to mention the prestigious Prix de Lausanne. Former students have passed through the eye of the needle to join some of Europe's leading ballet schools, including the Royal Ballet School in London, and to work in prominent companies such as The Royal Ballet, The Royal Danish Ballet in Copenhagen and the Norwegian National Ballet.
The 50th anniversary is also marked by other events taking place throughout the year. Keep up-to-date via operaen.no.
