In recent years, the Stavanger Symphony Orchestra has undergone intensive artistic development and attracted increasingly large audiences, both nationally and internationally. In the autumn of 2012, the orchestra moved into the new Concert Hall in Stavanger, which features first-class acoustics.
In addition to playing concerts in its home town, the orchestra has toured in Europe, Japan and the USA. Several of the orchestra's recordings have been released to critical acclaim, with the three most recent receiving two Diapason d’Or awards and a nomination for a Gramophone Award.
In the autumn of 2013, young, up-and-coming Christian Vásquez took up the position of Chief Conductor of Stavanger Symphony Orchestra. The 30-year-old conductor from Venezuela was educated through his native country’s public music education programme, El Sistema. His concerts are characterised by an intense joy of music and abundance of energy.
Performing as soloist is young, promising violinist Veronika Eberle.
