For 20 years, Oslo Danse Ensemble has challenged the grey area between jazz and contemporary dance with its expressive, physical performances. As they turn 20, they are appearing for the first time at the Oslo Opera House.
They have invited Subjazz, Jo Strømgren and Toni Ferraz, the three choreographers who have worked most with the company since its inception, to create new works for their ODE 20TH ANNIVERSARY production.
Since its inception, ODE has been an important arena for keeping up with the traditions of jazz dance and a driving force behind the evolution of jazz dance into what we now call contemporary jazz.
The company works with many choreographers at home and abroad, including Subjazz, Bob Fosse, Jo Strømgren, Kjersti Alveberg, Sølvi Edvardsen, Katrine Bølstad and Toni Ferraz. In its first 20 years, ODE has created or been behind 20 evening-length productions, including five national tours, as well as commissions for television and industry.
ODE is about power and rhythm, humour and engagement.
