Every year, thousands of practitioners from across the country meet to compete in traditional folk music and dance at the Landskappleiken and Landsfestival festivals. During summer days of intense competition, winners are announced in the categories of acting, dance and folk singing. On 20 November the 100 winners, aged between 12 and 80, will perform at the Main House.
In 2014, FolkOrg – the organisation for folk music and folk dance – gathered a selection of folk music masters for their first celebratory concert at the Oslo Opera House. “This has to happen again!” exclaimed Parliamentary President Olemic Thommessen following the performance, and FolkOrg are now returning with another concert that will include everything from traditional Halling dance, mournful ballads and seductive fiddle playing to music performed on the langleik, bukkehorn and accordion. In addition to the individual class winners, the annual Folkelarm Awards will also be announced, along with the Folk Musician of the Year.
The concert is a collaboration between the Norwegian National Opera & Ballet and FolkOrg – the organisation for folk music and folk dance. This is Norwegian folk music and dance at its best! For more information about the programme and contributors.
