Anti-hero Don Quixote heads out into the world to do good deeds, but soon becomes entangled in the love story of Kitri and Basilio. Based on Miguel Cervantes’ famous novel, Nureyev’s ballet offers excitement, Spanish-inspired ballet, mischief and nonsense, and not least, impressive dance!

Don Quixote is one of the core works of classical ballet, and features in the repertoires of all the major ballet companies. The Norwegian National Ballet’s version was created by legendary dancer Rudolf Nureyev, based on Marius Petipa’s choreography. Among other things, Nureyev is known for having developed the role of men in ballet, and in Don Quixote both the male and female dancers have plenty to get to grips with. Airy jumps, fast pirouettes and acting – here The Norwegian National Ballet’s dancers really show what they are capable of.

“A festive production that is both beautiful and entertaining,” wrote the norwegian newspaper Vårt Land after Don Quixote premiered with new costumes and set designs in 2009. Former prima ballerina at the Opéra national de Paris, Isabelle Guèrin, is responsible for the production.
