In Kurt Weill and Bertolt Brecht’s children’s opera Der Jasager – He who says “Yes”, a whole village is hit by an epidemic. A young school pupil is faced with the fateful decision whether to sacrifice himself for the community, or save himself. The opera from 1930 is based on the Japanese work Taniko, whose style has much in common with Norwegian folk tales.
130 young singers together with young musicians in the orchestra participate in the production from the Norwegian National Opera Children's Chorus of He who says “Yes”, which was first performed here in 2010. Director Gunnar Bergstrøm includes animation and film, which reflect the action in the work. The lead role as the boy is sung by Aksel Johannes Skramstad Rykkvin from the Norwegian National Opera Children's Chorus, the role of the mother is sung by Vigdis Unsgård, while the teacher is sung by Espen Langvik.
The second part of the evening offers music written for young performers and a young audience, from composers such as Kurt Weill, Hans Eisler and Paul Dessau.
