Carte Blanche is Norway’s national company for contemporary dance, and the company’s 25th anniversary is being marked with Shadows Remain Silent, a new work by the Norwegian-Iranian dancer and choreographer Hooman Sharifi. His works are very physical and forceful, and move between theatre, dance and visual art. Sharifi’s background is street dance and hip hop, and his work explores the feelings and structures hidden behind hierarchy, violence, power and injustice. His own background is central to many of his works.
In addition, Carte Blanche presents Ten Duets on the Theme of Rescue by the critically acclaimed choreographer and dancer Crystal Pite. Pite views the human body from its most poetic angles and her works are characterised by wit and ingenuity – combined with a fine sense of the theatrical. The ballet gives us a perceptive insight into the interplay between two people. Through a sequence of subtle, intimate duets the audience is left to decide who is rescuing whom, and from what.
