Red Moon Rising in the East by Dwayne Yancey of Roanoke, Virginia is the story of engineer Sergei Pavlovich Korolev, the father of the Russian space program during the height of the space race. He launched the first satellite, the first animal into space, the first satellite to the moon, the first man in space, the first woman in space, and many other space firsts long before the Americans. Korolev was first jailed under Stalins purges for his experiments, and then released when Stalin understood the need for a missile program. Korolev died tragically, in 1966, and the Soviet moon program died with him. This fully staged, one-act, one-man show runs less than 90 minutes. It is a pre-season video on demand online offering available through November 30. Tickets are $20 (+fee) for 48 hour access. Visit ltnonline.org for the link to purchase tickets. Sponsored by the Business Consortium for the Arts, Hampton Roads Community Foundation, and Norfolk Arts Commission on the Arts and Humanities.
