The Caplin Foundation presents
CRUMBS FROM THE TABLE OF JOY by Lynn Nottage
Directed by Ti Ames
Sponsored by Allison Partners
On Stage March 3-19, 2023
CRUMBS FROM THE TABLE OF JOY is a touching memory play about a Black family, told through the eyes of 17-year-old Ernestine Crump as she comes of age in Brooklyn in 1950.
Recently widowed Godfrey Crump has moved his family north to Brooklyn from Pensacola. His daughters escape their isolation by going to the cinema, while Godfrey finds solace in radio evangelist Father Divine. Things change quickly when Aunt Lily, a free-spirited communist, bursts into their home.
“Imagine a pairing…between Tennessee Williams and Lorraine Hansberry, a memory play about a black family, a glass menagerie in the sun” — The NY Post
