The Dukes of September

Rhythm Revue 2012

Donald Fagen, Michael McDonald, Boz Scaggs

Monday August 6, 2012 at 8pm

$42 in-house, $25 lawn

‘Rock superstars from the ‘70s, Donald Fagen, Michael McDonald, and Boz Scaggs, reunite as The Dukes of September for the Rhythm Revue 2012 summer tour. The trio first collaborated in 1989 under the musical project The New York Rock and Soul Revue, which involved a series of concerts and live shows resulting in the 1991 compilation album The New York Rock and Soul Revue: Live at the Beacon. Each musician led their own successful careers before joining the group — Fagen served as half of the popular ’70s jazz-pop duo Steely Dan; McDonald was a backup vocalist for Steely Dan in the mid-1970s, and did a five-year stint with The Doobie Brothers; and Scaggs was a part of the Steve Miller Band — this seasoned group of rockers will come together once again to perform their eclectic blend of rock, jazz, pop, blues, and soul.

The group started in France in the late ‘70s, and experienced unparalleled success with their singles “Djobi Djoba” and “Bamboleo.” Their breakthrough in the U.S. came in 1989 with their eponymous third album, Gipsy Kings, which spent 40 weeks on the Billboard charts. In 2010 The Gipsy Kings recorded a Spanish version of Randy Newman’s “You’ve Got a Friend in Me,” which was featured in the film Toy Story 3.
