Wolf Trap Announces Its 2010 Children's Theatre-in-the-Woods Schedule, Begins 6/29

Children and families will rock, groove and stretch their vocal chords this summer with an eclectic mix of performances featuring ballet, jazz, classical music, hip-hop and opera, all presented during the 2010 summer season at Wolf Trap's Children's Theatre-in-the-Woods. The season features several new artists and acts, including Hayes Greenfield's Jazz-A-Ma-Tazz, a one-of-a-kind,
interactive introduction to jazz, Milkshake, "a band on a mission to create great rock music for kids," and PROJECT Trio, a high-energy chamber music ensemble that blends the sounds of hip hop, classical and popular music.

Returning to Theatre-in-the-Woods are long-time favorites such as Steve Roslonek better known as "Mr. Steve" from PBS Kids, the Maryland Youth Ballet, and GRAMMY-nominated Dinorock, who will have children searching for clues with "The Great Dinosaur Mystery." Synetic Family Theater will premiere a new work, titled "Cowardly Christopher Finds His Courage."

Performances take place at 10 a.m. and 11:15 a.m., Tuesdays through Saturdays starting June 29, in the unique woodsy setting of America's only National Park for the Performing Arts. Theatre-in-the-Woods is located amidst 117 rolling acres and nestled in a shady grove, where families can bring their own picnics and enjoy performances specially designed for children kindergarten through sixth grade.

Free workshops, open to all ages, are offered every Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday immediately following the 10 a.m. performance. The 30-minute workshops are an extension of the preceding performance and allow children to actively engage in music, song, dance, and drama. As space is limited reservations are required.
