Wolf Trap Announces 45 Additions to its 2011 Summer Season

Wolf Trap Foundation for the Performing Arts announces 45 new summer performances at the Filene Center at Wolf Trap National Park for the Performing Arts and The Barns at Wolf Trap, featuring several of the biggest names in pop music, comedy, theater, and symphony, along with the meticulously chosen Wolf Trap Opera Company repertoire and cast. Wolf Trap members enjoy immediate priority ticketing options for a Summer 2011 experience unlike any other regional venue. The Wolf Trap 2011 summer season will feature an estimated 100 performances-nearly one a day-from a diverse line-up of the finest touring acts of yesterday and today. Anticipated highlights include the National Symphony Orchestra once again making Wolf Trap its summer home with nine distinct performances; a special Wolf Trap Opera Company alumni concert, Opera's Greatest Hits from Wolf Trap Opera's Alumni Stars, featuring singers spanning four decades of the Company's history on the Filene Center stage; and some of the brightest names in the pop-rock world making their debut or much anticipated return with jam-packed sets underneath the stars.

Wolf Trap welcomes back Emil De Cou as the NSO@Wolf Trap festival conductor, joined by notable guest conductors Marvin Hamlisch, Andy Brick, and Tan Dun. De Cou will lend his talents to Three Broadway Divas featuring Debbie Gravitte, Christiane Noll& Jan Horvath;Casablanca with live film & music; Arlo Guthrie & Time for Three; and The Five Browns, an acclaimed quintet of piano playing siblings. Additional NSO@Wolf Trap programs with featured guest conductors on the schedule include: Marvin Hamlisch & Brian Stokes Mitchell, Sondheim's Sweeney Todd, Play! A Video Game Symphony, Tan Dun: Martial Arts Trilogy, and Tcheers for Tchaikovsky!

Wolf Trap Opera Company Presents the Brightest Rising Opera Stars in the Country

The nationally acclaimed Wolf Trap Opera Company (WTOC) presents five productions this summer to be performed by the finest emerging talent in the field: The Filene Young Artists. The Company will present two new full-length operas at The Barns at Wolf Trap plus one full-length recital; Wolf-Ferrari's The Curious Women (Le donne curiose), Jacques Offenbach's Tales of Hoffman (Les contes d'Hoffmann); and Couples: From Getting Hitched to Getting Ditched: Recital with Steven Blier. Two productions to be presented at the Filene Center, include the full staged musical Sweeney Todd, one of Steven Sondheim's most celebrated productions, and Opera's Greatest Hits from Wolf Trap Opera's Alumni Stars conducted by Stephen Lord.

Pop and Rock Galore

Averaging almost a show each night from late May through September, Wolf Trap has all the popular genre bases covered with multiple evenings of pop-rock, classic rock, Motown, country, and folk. The legendary Dolly Parton returns for the first time since 1992 with her inimitable brand of country-pop. Other rare classics include The Go-Go's with a coveted stop on their Happily Ever After Farewell Tour, roots-rock icon John Prine, Bruce Hornsby & The Noisemakers with newgrass darlings the Punch Brothers fronted by Chris Thile, and the Levon Helm Band coming off a sensational 2010 with a new album and a headlining slot at the Newport Folk Festival.

Other notables include Huey Lewis & The News, the Monkees, Bill Cosby, Chicago, local gal Mary Chapin Carpenter, and Peter Frampton.
