Two of Hampton Road's leading performing arts organizations are teaming up to bring the seminal American musical, The Wiz, to downtown Norfolk. More than 50 performers and 20 technicians are working to make this musical the largest spectacle to hit the Wells Theatre in years. The collaboration between the companies is a landmark partnership for Hampton Roads.
The Wiz begins previews on April 11 with opening night on April 14 and runs Tuesday to Sunday for three weeks concluding on April 30. Tickets for all performance start as low as $20 in the orchestra with discounts available for military, students, groups, and NSU faculty, staff, and alumni.
This multiple Tony Award-winning musical adventure, adapted from L. Frank Baum's classic children's novel, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, has received critical acclaim for film, television, and Broadway productions for more than 40 years. This production will features cast members from the most recognized HBCU theatre program in the country, Norfolk State University, and union actors from New York and Hampton Roads. Whether Dorothy is played by Stephanie Mills, Diana Ross, or this production's breakout star Alana Houston, her story will touch your heart and lift you out of your seats with excitement.
