Virginia Rep opens the toe-tapping musical Songs from the Soul on Friday, February 2nd at The Children's Theatre at Willow Lawn, the third show of the 2017-18 Children's Season. With book by Richmond native William Dye and music spanning genres and generations, this lively musical revue examines the evolution of African-American music - from gospel to motown to rap - and the essential role it has played in American life. The show is part of the Acts of Faith Festival and runs through February 25, 2018 at The Children's Theatre at Willow Lawn, 1601 Willow Lawn Drive, Richmond, Virginia 23230.
Director William Dye has assembled a young, energetic cast of local favorites. William Anderson returns to Virginia Rep for the second time this season after recently performing in Akeelah and the Bee at The Children's Theatre this fall. Anthony Cosby (Little Engine that Could, Dreamgirls), Michaela Nicole (Fun Home, Beauty and the Beast) and Nicole Pearson (Harriet Tubman and the Underground Railroad, The Maggie Walker Story) are also featured in this ensemble cast. The full cast and production list is below.
Set Design is by Terrie Powers (Akeelah and the Bee, Da), Lighting Design is by Skyler Broughman (The Little Engine That Could, Buffalo Soldier) and Costume Design is by Virginia Rep Costume Director Sue Griffin (Mary Poppins, The End of War).
