TheatreLAB is proud to present Patrick Marber's Closer, next month, as the third show in their inaugural season. Closer will be directed by Chanelle Vigue and will be performed at RVA Event Space for a limited engagement, today, May 3-10.
A writer, a photographer, an enigmatic young woman, and a doctor get caught up in an unusual set of cross-relationships that move across blind dates, internet chat rooms, and high-end strip clubs. In Closer, Patrick Marber has created a brilliant exploration into the brutal anatomy of modern romance, where a quartet of strangers meet, fall in love, and become caught in a web of sexual desire and betrayal. Closer is the winner of the 1998 Olivier Award for Best Play and the 1999 New York Drama Critics Circle Award for Best Foreign Play.
The cast features Thomas Cunningham as Dan, Liz Earnest as Anna, Theresa Mantiply as Alice, and Evan Nasteff as Larry.
From the director of Closer, Chanelle Vigue: "Closer is a love story - but it's also about fear, dreams, revenge, sex, control, truth, and chance -- and all the destruction four people do to each other as they try to figure out the difference. This play is intense in all the best ways - the script is well-written, witty, and brilliant. It's tragic, but it is absolutely beautiful to watch this tragedy unfold. Quite simply, it's a contemporary drama about love, sex, loss, and all the violence and bloodshed in between."
Closer will be presented at RVA Event Space, 0 East 4th Street [in the Plant Zero complex] from May 3rd to 10th. Performances will be on May 3rd, 4th, 5th, 8th, 9th and 10th will be at 8pm.
