ON BOOK offers a platform to encourage playwrights' risk-taking and experimentation while supporting them as they refine their voice and craft. ON BOOK also creates an open conversation between artist and audience through open rehearsals and digital interaction. By fostering a rich collaborative relationship among the creative team and the public, the ON BOOK process will generate an educational, entertaining, and engaging experience to celebrate the cultivation of Richmond's playwrights.
Our selection committee is seeking works by playwrights from the Metro-Richmond area. Submissions should be early drafts, not finished scripts ready for publication. Each finalist will be assigned a creative team and, following a series of workshops over the next few months, will receive a staged reading during the ON BOOK Festival in June. The winning selection from the festival will receive a World Premiere as part of TheatreLAB's Cellar Series that will run for two weekends in August.
