The duo of platinum-selling artists arrives at The Barns for a night brimming with their massive library of pop-rock hits. Richard Marx's "Hold On to the Night," "Satisfied," and the worldwide classic "Right Here Waiting" are three of his 13 No. 1 hit songs. 2009's Emotional Remains, his latest solo release, features Matt Scannell, frontman and lead singer for Vertical Horizon who started the band with fellow Georgetown undergrad Keith Kane in 1991. Their hits "You're a God" and "Everything You Want" in the late '90s propelled the group to fame. In 2008 Marx began touring with Matt Scannell as an acoustic pair after meeting at a charitable event. Their first album, Duo, features 10 acoustic songs, including the brand new, "Always On Your Mind," which they wrote together. Also on the CD are reinventions of hits "Hazard," "Everything You Want" and "Endless Summer Nights". The two plan to release an electric-rock record together in the near future.

Fellow Rosebud artist, Ruthie Foster joins Hammond for her Wolf Trap debut. Ruthie Foster tackles life's big issues throughout her newest album, The Truth According to Ruthie Foster. With a charisma that can ignite any audience, Foster emerges on her album as an artist of all-encompassing appeal. "Ruthie's drawn comparisons to Ella and Aretha, but musically neither is really close," observed the Philadelphia City Paper in one such rave. GRAMMY-nominated Irish folksinger, songwriter, harpist, and philanthropist Moya Brennan, also known as Máire Brennan, the First Lady of Celtic music, is making her long-awaited debut at The Barns at Wolf Trap. For many years, Brennan has been the lead singer of the Celtic new age group Clannad; a family-made band with sister and fellow group mate Enya, who continues to have a very successful solo career. In 1992, Brennan released her first self-titled solo album, Máire, on Atlantic Records. In 2002 she began promoting herself as Moya Brennan-a spelling that closely coincides with the phonetic pronunciation of her name for those not familiar with the Irish variant of the spelling. In total, Brennan has recorded 25 albums, and has sold 20 million records.

Los Angeles Guitar Quartet

The last of The Discovery Series for The Barns season, the popularly known Los Angeles Guitar Quartet (LAGQ) will bring new energy to The Barns stage with their wide-ranging programs and vibrant musical interplay. The LAGQ is known for its varied repertoire, mixing various genres in concert and on recordings, from classical to jazz, flamenco to new age, and bluegrass to rock. With over a dozen recordings over the past two decades, they have established themselves as masters of the classics, as well as the creators of the unique syntheses of world music and contemporary styles that have made the "LAGQ-sound" a favorite around the world. A winner of a 2005 GRAMMY Award, the LAGQ is one of the most charismatic and versatile groups performing today. Member and lead singer of well-known Northern Virginia band, Eddie From Ohio, Julie Murphy Wells brings her Sophisticated Lady tour to The Barns. Wells sings pieces from Broadway and the '40s that first inspired her as a young child and still remain close to her heart. This local area favorite's rich, clear voice has been a hallmark of indie-folk powerhouse Eddie From Ohio (EFO) since she and three friends founded it in 1991. Despite the demands of EFO's touring, she released two solo albums in the first half of the 1990s. No Rules is a collection of her own songs and covers; Sophisticated Lady is a collection of jazz standards from George and Ira Gershwin, Cole Porter, Jerome Kern, Billie Holiday, Stephen Sondheim, and Nat King Cole, and was recorded at the Birchmere in Alexandria, Virginia. The album's title refers to Murphy's elegant pop demeanor, though, truth be told, her voice can also wax brassy, dreamy, sultry, and hip.
