This year, The Alden in McLean is celebrating Halloween with the screening of two scary movies, something old and something relatively new. The celebration begins at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 30, with the 1920 classic film "The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari." Tickets are $10, $6 for MCC district residents. On Saturday, Nov. 2, at 8 p.m., the theatre will show 2011's "Tucker and Dale vs. Evil." Admission is free. The theatre is located at 1234 Ingleside Avenue.

"The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari" (1920), a chilling German expressionist masterpiece, tells the tale of the nefarious Dr. Caligari who manipulates a sleepwalker into committing a series of shocking crimes in a small village. This rare edition features the original, beautifully-illustrated German titles. Special guest, Ethan Watermeier, will provide the English translation. In addition, an equally-spooky silent short film will be shown.

The hilarious, good-natured horror comedy, "Tucker and Dale vs. Evil," had a limited release in 2011. Rated 85% "fresh" on the movie review site Rotten Tomatoes, what "Shaun of the Dead" is for the zombie genre, "Tucker and Dale vs. Evil" is for backwoods-killer movies. Rated R, The Alden reserves the right to refuse admission to anyone under 17 years old who is not accompanied by an adult.

Tickets for "The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari" are on sale now. Discounts are available to seniors, students and groups of eight or more. For more information or to purchase tickets online, visit:
