TOTALLY RED! to Play The Alden in McLean, 3/14-22

"Totally Red!" a show comprised of several retellings of the beloved classic "Little Red Riding Hood," begins a two-weekend run at The Alden in McLean on Saturday. Featuring a cast of young actors who live in the McLean Community Center's tax district, the show will be presented at 3 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, Mar. 14, 15, 21 and 22. Tickets are $12, $10 for MCC district residents. The Alden is located at 1234 Ingleside Avenue.

The show begins with the well-known story being told in classic storybook theatre style ("Little Red Riding Hood"), then melodrama ("The Perils of Being Miss RED"), Elizabethan ("Much Ado about RED"), 80's hip-hop ("REDz in the Hood"), avant-garde ("Call the Moment RED") and musical-comedy style ("RED! The Musical!"). The production is appropriate for children age six and older.

Cast members include Longfellow Middle School students Duncan Andrews, Tara Atkison, Madi Hunt, Dasha Makarishcheva, Laney Moy, Connor Mulhall and Katherine Walker; Spring Hill Elementary School students Luke Flaxman, Cole Sitilides and Francisco Yang; and Chesterbrook Elementary School students Clare A'Hearn and Alyssa Gorbaneva. The young actors play a variety of roles, from Red to the wolf, to members of the chorus in the various renditions of the classic tale.

The Alden's Director of Youth Programs Kathy Herr directed the show. Music direction and choreography is by Tracey Stephens. Lighting design is by Alden Technical Director Jennifer Garrett; sound design is by Alden Assistant Technical Director Justin King. Jessie Shipley designed the costumes.
