Take a break from work, bring some lunch, and immerse yourself in theatre for half an hour on Friday, August 26 at 12PM. The Lunchtime Theatre series has drawn patrons to Firehouse over the past year. The August event marks the beginning of a partnership with UR Downtown.
The program on August 26 will feature a 30 minute staged reading of Richmond playwright Roy Proctor's one-act comedy SUNDAY IN THE PARK WITH O. Henry.
SUNDAY IN THE PARK WITH O. Henry combines Proctor's adaptations of three O. Henry short stories, each a romantic comedy, set in Manhattan's Madison Square Park. O. Henry lived in the neighborhood and often visited Madison Square Park in search of story ideas in the first decade of the 20th century. In Proctor's play, O. Henry narrates the proceedings, functions as an informal park host, and occasionally plays a role in the stories. The reading features Patrick Bello, Katie Ellis, Sam Martin, Ken Moretti, Anna Rose, Caleb Wade, and Alana Wiljanen and is directed by Joel Bassin. University of Richmond Downtown is located at 626 E. Broad Street. A parking deck is located adjacent to the building on 7th Street between Broad and Marshall Streets. Street parking, metered parking, and other parking decks are conveniently located on nearby streets. There is a suggested $5 donation for the event. Patrons can bring their lunch or buy it at Richmond on Broad Cafe. Enjoy the twists and turns of classic O. Henry stories, eat a bit, and spend some time with friends at Firehouse and UR Downtown!Videos
