Richmond Triangle Players hosts a one-night-only concert reading of the road-trip musical comedy Murphy's Law with book, music, and lyrics by Andy Nagraj and Jonathan Spivey on Monday, July 25 at 8 PM. This concert reading is Richmond's first - but not final - taste of the musical since the original workshop at the Modlin Center for the Arts at the University of Richmond in 2004.

The cast for the reading features features six Richmond stage luminaries. Durron Tyre, currently playing C.C. in Virginia Repertory Theatre's summer smash Dreamgirls, stars as Dave Spring who, when life hands him more trials than he can handle, hits the road on a cross-country trip. Scott Wichmann, who headlines Virginia Repertory Theatre's upcoming production of 1776 as John Adams this autumn, puts his comic chameleon skills to good use in multiple roles. Audra Honaker, currently appearing as Jenny in TheatreLAB's production of Mr. Burns: A Post-Electric Play, shows off her belting skills in the role of Kira, a no-nonsense bombshell.

Jacqueline Jones, appearing in The Hallelujah Girls at Swift Creek Mill Theatre, joins the cast as Diane, a midwest housewife with dreams of Broadway stardom. Paul Major, who appeared as Smee in Virginia Repertory Theatre's Peter and the Starcatcher, plays Sam, a good-old-boy auto mechanic with a roving eye and a heart of gold. Completing the six-person cast is Jan Guarino, soon appearing in The Charitable Sisterhood Christmas Specatcular at the historic Hanover Tavern, playing multiple roles.

Here's how Nagraj and Spivey bill the musical: "Everyman Dave Spring finds his job just a memory, his parents divorcing, and his fiancee cheating on him with another man. When everything that can go wrong does go wrong, the solution appears obvious: a cross-country road trip. Miles whiz by, colorful characters collide, and hilarity ensues as Dave contemplates what to do when life hands him a fork in the road. Featuring a toe-tapping score that spans folk, funk, and everything in between, this road-trip musical comedy will split your sides and leave you humming your way out of the theatre."

Murphy's Law received a production at The Strand Theatre in Zelienople, Pennsylvania this past May after being featured in Musical Theatre Artists of Pittsburgh's Hot Metal Musicals showcase. The musical also received developmental workshops in San Diego, California; Cedar City, Utah; Holland, Michigan; and New York City. The NYC workshop at Dixon Place featured a cast including Broadway's Aaron Galligan-Stierle and Johnny Kinnaird, as well as Helen Hayes Award winner Diana Huey.

Richmond Triangle Players is located at 1300 Altamont Avenue, Richmond, VA 23230. Pay what you can with a $10 suggested donation. No reservations required. One hour and forty five minutes with one intermission. Bar available.
