Richmond CenterStage Sets 2014-15 U.S. Trust LIFE IS A CABARET Series Lineup

Richmond CenterStage today announced the return of its acclaimed U.S. Trust LIFE IS A CABARET Series: A Celebration of the American Songbook for its fourth season.

This exciting series will begin on Friday, October 17 with Richmond native Lisa Edwards-Burrs in her show "Voices of America - Celebrated in Word and Song," and will be showcased in CenterStage's sleek and sophisticated Rhythm Hall in Dorothy Pauley Square. For each intimate performance, patrons will be seated at cabaret tables where they'll enjoy food and beverage service while enjoying some of the best the jazz and Broadway world has to offer right in the heart of Downtown Richmond.

Further, this season also features new weekend performance schedules that include 7:00 p.m. evening performances on Friday and Saturday with a special 2:00 p.m. Saturday matinee for each artist.

"Arts lovers from across the region can expect world-class entertainment in a beautiful setting around our new weekend schedule. This series is perfect for jazz and Broadway fans that haven't experienced this innovative series yet."

Richmond soprano and Outstanding Vocalist of the Year (Richmond Magazine) Lisa Edwards-Burrs will dazzle CenterStage audiences with her "crystalline voice...and amazing control." As a recitalist she's performed on stages across the U.S., South America and Europe.

Now this RVA songstress takes the stage to bring to life the voices of America, recounting the human experience through the words of authors and poets such as Maya Angelou as well as songs of spirituals, jazz and musical theatre. Ms. Edwards-Burrs will also be accompanied by beloved classical and jazz pianist, teacher, and Richmonder Russell Wilson.

From her earliest hits to some of her later, more adventurous musical forays, Ms. Hall plumbs the depths of Sarah Vaughan's musical legacy in this thrilling exploration of the Divine One.

Passionate about classics from the Songbook's Golden Era, as well as more contemporary masterpieces, Jennifer sings the songs- and the praises- of America's finest lyricists and composers-from Berlin to Bucchino and Gershwin to Guettel. And she shares how their songs have taken hold of the hearts and imaginations of generations, including her own!
