Richmond Triangle Players, one of the city's best-known and acclaimed cultural organizations, announced today that it has purchased its venue at 1300 Altamont Avenue in Scott's Addition, and that the building has been re-named the Robert B. Moss Theatre. The new name honors the real estate entrepreneur who located the building for the company and provided the naming gift for the building.

"On behalf of the Board, staff and all the artists associated with Richmond Triangle Players, we are thrilled to re-dedicate our venue to honor Robb Moss, whose vision and forethought is a cornerstone that has helped build RTP into the significant cultural institution it is today," stated Philip Crosby, executive director of RTP.

Robb Moss is a Richmond native, a graduate of the University of Richmond, and a top producing realtor with Long & Foster Christie's International Real Estate.

"I'm thrilled to be a part of making this happen," said Moss. "Finding a home for RTP and enriching the cultural arts for the Richmond community makes this honor even more special."

The re-dedication of the Robert B. Moss Theatre took place during an event held April 26 at RTP's venue. Entertainment was provided by actor-singer Chris Hester, who recently played the title role in RTP's production of The Boy from Oz, and jazz chanteuse Emme St. James.

Moss was inspired by a presentation he saw at Triangle Players' 15th Anniversary Celebration almost 10 years ago. The theatre company was then performing on a postage-stamp stage on the third floor of Fielden's nightclub and was literally watching the building crumble around them. At their Anniversary celebration, RTP laid out its desire for a new home.

"It wasn't even a week later that Robb came to us at RTP with an idea for a building that could be renovated into the kind of theater we needed," Crosby continued. "He not only located the theater, but bought it for us!"

"Back then, there was no way any bank would have given RTP a mortgage on that property," echoed RTP Board President Julia Flenner. "Robb put his reputation - not to mention his credit score -- on the line for RTP, because he believed in us and what we were doing. Sometimes an angel arrives at just the right time."

Since opening the theatre in 2010, RTP grown from being a "fringe theatre" to one of the major cultural organizations in the Richmond area, with a national and even international reputation for the excellence of its work.

The company has won acclaim from its growing and diverse audiences, as well as from the Richmond Theatre Critics Circle, with over 90 "Best" nominations, the inaugural People's Choice Award, and awards for Best Play and Best Musical twice each.

Every year, RTP hosts over 160 events to the delight of almost 10,000 enthusiastic patrons, a significant factor in the growth of and public investment in its Scott's Addition neighborhood.
