WINGS: THE MUSICAL is a haunting chamber musical about transcendence and the capacity of the human spirit to soar to unimagined heights. The play revolves around the journey that aviatrix daredevil Emily Stilson takes as she fights her way back to language and comprehension after a stroke.
WINGS was born in 1976 as a radio drama that award-winning playwright Arthur Kopit wrote for NPR's Earplay series. In 1978 Kopit adapted it for the stage and the play premiered at the Yale Repertory Theatre. WINGS, THE MUSICAL with music by Jeffrey Lunden and book and lyrics by Arthur Perlman was developed at Chicago's Goodman Theatre and had its New York City premiere in 1993 at The Public Theater.
WINGS: THE MUSICAL begins a limited run of twelve performances at Firehouse on Thursday, February 15, 2018. Performances are Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30pm through March 10. There is a 4pm Sunday matinee on February 25, and two Thursday performances at 7:30pm on March 1 and March 8 that will be followed by post-performance talkbacks. We're thrilled to announce that composer Jeffrey Lunden will join us for the Thursday March 8talkback.
