Firehouse will produce the world premiere of INVALID -- a new adaptation of Moliere's 17th century French farce THE IMAGINARY INVALID -- directed by Josh Chenard in a new adaptation by Chenard and Jane Mattingly. Performances begin Thursday, August 30, 2018 and run thru Saturday, September 29, 2018.
Firehouse's INVALID breathes new comedic life into Moliere's last play. Considered one of the greatest comic playwrights, Moliere was also a popular actor in his own plays. He died on stage in 1673 during a production of THE IMAGINARY INVALID, performing the title role of Argan -- a stingy hypochondriac who decides that the best way to get affordable and effective health care is to marry his daughter Angelica to a doctor. He arranges a marriage with the son of one of his doctors but his daughter refuses to accept the arrangement because she's been secretly carrying on a courtship with her music teacher. Argan's wife Beline and their saucy maid Toinette take Angelica's side. A battle of wits ensues, the enimas hit the fan, and the hilarity builds to a final gut-busting finale of medical mayhem.
